    (January 22, 1934- )
Born in London, England, United Kingdom
    Last name pronounced CARE
Chef who hosted the syndicated TV cooking show 'The Galloping Gourmet' (1968-71)
Has written over two dozen cookbooks, including the seven volume series 'Television Cookbooks'
Hosts the National Cancer Institute's 5 A Day radio and TV programs titled 'Do Yourself A Flavor' (1999- )
He proposed to his wife in a cow manure filled pasture.
His 'galloping' persona consisted of acting flamboyant and constantly nipping from a sherry bottle during the show.
His wife was producer of the show and came up with outrageous stunts for him, including cooking in a suit of armor.
His early recipes were loaded with butters, creams, cholesterol and fat.
When his fame rose he started having affairs.
Only after his wife's 1986 heart attack did he switch to more nutritious ways of preparing meals.
After finding God he shed his hedonistic ways and went so far as to place a wooden cross received as a gift in his living room.
He started his cooking career in 1958 while serving in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
In 1971 while parked in an RV with his wife a truck plowed into them - she lost half a lung, and he was partially paralyzed for a time and unable to continue his cooking show.
Afterwards he stopped womanizing and became devoted to his wife.
He became a naturalized U.S. citizen where he lives in a Washington mansion.
His cooking helped him become a self-made millionaire.
He knows his youthful popularity has passed and is comfortable with hosting local TV shows and healthy eating causes.
His son stated, 'He and Julia opened up the door to cooking on TV. People have been running through it ever since.'
