    (February 17, 1864-February 5, 1941)
    Born in Narrambla, Australia
Poet and national hero of Australia
Author of poems Waltzing Matilda and The Man from Snowy River
Also served as a lawyer, soldier and journalist/war correspondent
Featured on the Australian ten dollar note
    Real name: Andrew Barton Paterson
    A. B. Paterson College on Australia's Gold Coast is named after him
He took his nickname from his favorite horse.
He really over-romanticized the Australian outback in his writings.
He spent WWI training horses in the Mideast for the British Army.
    He was originally a lawyer.
The much loved 'Waltzing Matilda' is impossible to understand without a translator and is about a hobo who steals a sheep and when caught drowns himself rather than go to jail.
It almost became the Australian national anthem.
If you are from Australia, he's huge! If not, not so much.
'The Man from Snowy River' was turned into a successful move and television series.
'Waltzing Matilda' has been recorded hundreds of times in many different styles by a wide variety of artists.
Paterson graduated from high school at sixteen and was admitted to the bar at age 22.
He actually lived in the outback until he was ten.
Being your country's favorite poet is a pretty good way to be remembered.
