    Devised a new regenerative circuit (1912)
    Captain stationed with the American Expeditionary Forces in France (1918)
    Commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Paris (1918)
    Invented the 'superheterodyne' radio similar to modern radio and TV receivers (1918)
    Invented the 'staticless' radio known as Frequency Modulation or FM (1933)
    He lost his fortune on a legal battle against RCA over his FM technology.
    He separated from Marion MacInnis after thirty years of marriage (1953).
    He suffered from depression that led to a separation and suicide.
    He killed himself.
    He was athletic.
    He had strong Math skills.
    He received his engineering degree in Columbia University.
    He found out for himself how Lee de Forest's radio tube really worked.
    Armstrong allowed the US military to use his FM technology patents royalty-free for the duration.
    Communication giants led by RCA lobbied at FCC to hinder his FM technology because they invested too much on AM radios.
    RCA, CBS, Sylvania and Motorola infringed his FM patents.
    His wife sued RCA, CBS, Sylvania and Motorola for patent infringement and collected $10 million.
    He was inducted posthumously to the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame (2000).
    A U.S. postal stamp was issued in his honor in (1983).
