    Won the 1942 Best Supporting Actor Oscar ('Johnny Eager')
    His first marriage only lasted six months.
    He turned down the roll of Elliot Ness on 'The Untouchables' TV series.
    He was found unconscious in his swimming pool after suffering a heart attack, and died 17 days later having never regained consciousness.
    He was a combat cameraman in World War II.
    He starred opposite Katherine Hepburn in the Broadway production of 'The Philadelphia Story.'
    He created the role of Detective Phillip Marlowe on radio (1947).
