The Resume

    (February 1, 1982-June 25, 1993)
    Late night variety/talk show
    Aired on <12004 NBC
    Hosted by David Letterman
Music was performed by Paul Shaffer and The World's Most Dangerous Band
Frequent gags/segments include 'Stupid Pet Tricks,' 'Stupid Human Tricks,' 'NBC Bookmobile,' and 'Late Night Top Ten'

Why Late Night with David Letterman might be annoying:

The show opened with Larry 'Bud' Melman offering a parody of the prologue to the 1931 film 'Frankenstein' followed by a bunch a peacock girls dancing.
    Three words: top ten lists!
They used a lot of irrelevant skits such as crushing things with a steamroller.
Letterman often verbally fought with some of his guests such as Shirley Maclaine and Cher.
MacLaine would later diss Letterman on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.'
Oprah Winfrey also got into a heated argument with Letterman (May 2, 1989).
The feud prompted a supposed feud between the two resulting in the infamous Oprah-Uma debacle and Winfrey not appearing on either of his talk show until 2005.
For the first seven years, he hosted no Friday show due to NBC airing 'Friday Night Videos.'
When Jay Leno was chosen as successor to the 'Tonight Show' from Johnny Carson, it prompted Letterman to leave his NBC talk show to start a new one on CBS.
As a result, 'The World's Most Dangerous Band' was changed to the 'CBS Orchestra' and Larry 'Bud' Melman reverted to his real name, Calvert DeForest resulting from intellectual property restraints from NBC.

Why Late Night with David Letterman might not be annoying:

Bill Murray and Don Herbert (aka Mr. Wizard) were his first guests.
Some feel that his 'Late Night' show on NBC was a lot more refreshing as it involved less Dave and more whacky guests.
It was awarded a Peabody Award in 1991.
Cher and Sonny Bono made their last televised appearance on an episode and sang their signature 'I Got You Babe' (November 13, 1987).
The show helped to make the 12:35 AM timeslot a staple in late night television.
Conan O'Brien was chosen as his successor upon Letterman's leave for CBS.
