The Resume

    (June 13, 1951- )
    Born in Binghamton, New York
    Director of 'Wild Style' (1980)
Other video projects include 'Doin' Time in Times Square,' 'Cinema Outlaws,' 'Under One Groove,' and 'Art in the Age of Hip-Hop'

Why he might be annoying:

His only other directorial effort for a conventional narrative film, 2000's 'Fear of Fiction,' performed poorly critically and financially.
Despite finding commercial success with Wild Style, he never duplicated the feat again.
This seems largely for the lack of trying, though, as he is content to focus on local visual arts projects and avant-garde documentaries.

Why he might not be annoying:

He successfully depicted Hip-Hop to mainstream audiences without being condescending or exploitative.
He helped to launch the mainstream careers of Fab Five Freddy and Grandmaster Flash.
He got the idea for the Wild Style logo after hiring graffiti writer Dondi to paint a 'window down' subway car piece that would appear in the movie.
Wild Style and its soundtrack have since been regarded as the most accurate portrait of hip-hop culture.
Wild Style was voted one of the top ten Rock & Roll films of all time by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
