    Hosted the radio program ‘Saturday Night Swing Club’ (1936-39)
    Was an announcer on the radio programs of Jack Benny, Fred Allen, and George Burns and Gracie Allen
    Appeared on Broadway in ‘Born Yesterday’ (1946-49) and ‘A Hole in the Head’ (1957)
    Appeared in the movies ‘A Letter to Three Wives’ (1949), ‘It Happens Every Spring’ (1949), ‘Panic in the Streets’ (1950), ‘Angels in the Outfield’ (1951), ‘When in Rome’ (1952), ‘Executive Suite’ (1954) and ‘The Solid Gold Cadillac’ (1956)

Why he might be annoying:

    He passed the entrance exam for Yale, but decided not to attend.
    He was married five times, divorced four times.
    He was fired from a touring production of ‘The Caine Mutiny Court Martial’ after allegedly complaining, ‘The South stinks! It’s a land of sow belly and segregation.’ (1955)
    He said about his looks, ‘I’m a cinch for the make-up men. They figure nothing can be done, so that’s what they do.’
    He had completed an episode of The Twilight Zone just before his death, but it was reshot with Jack Warden taking over the role.

    He had a brief NFL career playing with the Frankford Yellow Jackets.
    He gave up earning $2,500 a week in radio to earn $250 a week for his role in ‘Born Yesterday.’
    He won a Theatre World Award as most promising male newcomer for ‘Born Yesterday.’
    He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for his film and TV work.
    His explanation for his popularity: ‘The public is so relieved to see somebody besides a junior Adonis in the boy-meets-girl set-up that they give me a cheer.’
