The Resume

    (June 6, 1935-April 5, 2020)
    Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas
Birth name is Robert Cornelius Mitchell
Halfback for the Cleveland Browns (1958–61) and the Washington Redskins (1962-68)
Drafted in the seventh round of the 1958 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns
    Attended the University of Illinois
    Three-time Pro Bowl participant (1960, 1962-64)
Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1983)

Why he might be annoying:

    He retired prematurely.
His trade to Washington was seen as a catalyst in the power struggle between Paul Brown and owner Art Modell which resulted in Brown being fired.
He was set for the 1960 Olympic trials, but backed out after being offered $7,000 in his rookie season to stay with the Browns.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first Black player to play for the Washington Redskins - the last team to become fully integrated.
He set a Browns team record for the longest rushing play with a 90-yard run (which wouldn’t be broken until 2018).
He raised funds for Leukemia research with an annual golf tournament he hosted.
He continued to work with the Redskins franchise after being encouraged to stay on by Vince Lombardi.
He was passed over for the Redskins GM position in favor of Bobby Beathard, in 1978, which he considered to be his biggest professional disappointment (he would have been the NFL's first black GM).
