    (March 8, 1936-February 26, 1982)
    Born in Budapest, Hungary
    Jazz-fusion guitarist
Recorded the albums 'Gypsy 66' (1966), 'Jazz Raga' (1966), 'The Sorceror' (1967), 'Light My Fire' (1967), 'Dreams' (1968), '1969' (1969), 'Lena & Gabor' (with Lena Horne, 1969), 'Magical Connection' (1970), 'High Contrast' (1971), 'Small World' (1972), 'Rambler' (1974), 'Nightflight' (1976) and 'Faces' (1977)
He complained that he was never fully accepted in the US.
He claimed that George Benson copied his arrangement of the song 'Breezin,' and was bitter about Benson's success.
    He abused heroin.
    He joined Scientology.
He fell in love with jazz listening to the Voice of America.
He fled Hungary during a Communist crackdown, taking only his clothes and his guitar (1956).
He had an eclectic style, incorporating elements of Hungarian folk music, Indian ragas and rock feedback.
His song 'Gypsy Woman' was interpolated into Santana's 'Black Magic Woman.'
He sued Scientology for $21 million, claiming they embezzled from him and held him against his will. (He later dropped the suit, saying 'I found it too time consuming.' A counter-suit filed by Scientology that got dropped at the same time may have also played a role in the decision.)
