American League record for putouts (17) by a center fielder in a doubleheader (May 25, 1977)
Killed after a Chicago White Sox game by a shotgun blast while traveling in the back seat of his uncle's car in Gary, Indiana

Why he might be annoying:

He ditched the Twins for the Angels when team owner Gene Autry reached deep into his saddle bags and made him one of the game's first big-bucks free agents.
He promptly rewarded Autry by hitting .150 the first month for his new team.
He was flooded with requests for his April 1978 salary after he tried to give it back to Autry (who refused), saying he hadn't earned it, then announced he would donate it to charity.
He stands as a prime example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time as his murderer, Leonard Smith, was aiming for his estranged wife Barbara, another passenger in the car.
He met Barbara Smith 20 minutes prior to his death - his murderer had no idea who he was and never was the intended target.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father, Lyman Bostock, Sr., played in the Negro League (1940-49) and instilled a love for the game in his son.
He hit for the cycle in a game (July 24, 1976).
In 1978, he donated $10,000 to a church in Birmingham to help them repair their Sunday school.
The legal system failed him miserably as his murderer was found not guilty by reason of insanity, spent 21 months in a mental hospital, deemed no longer a threat to society, and released a free man.
