The Resume

    (February 15, 1922-December 3, 2017)
    Republican Representative from Illinois (1961-1981)
Ran for President as an Independent (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

He was a conservative Republican during the 1960s who opposed nearly all of LBJ's Great Society programs.
During the 1970s, he supported busing and upholding racial quotas.
He won only 7% of the vote.
He supported cutting taxes on business but opposed cutting income taxes on individuals.
    He won no electoral votes.
He endorsed Ralph Nader for President (2000).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was supportive of civil rights throughout his career.
    He was pro-choice.
    He was pro-environment.
Although he was a moderate, he won the support of liberals like Gore Vidal.
He was fiscally conservative, opposing both military and domestic overspending.
His run gave an alternative for those who didn't like the conservatism of Ronald Reagan yet were sick of Jimmy Carter's failure to boost the economy.
His idea for business tax cuts was adopted by the Reagan Administration (along with individual income tax cuts), which helped get the economy out of stagflation.
