    His nickname 'Toe' came from his younger brother who couldn't pronounce his actual name.
    His playing nickname was 'Old Lamplighter' because of his penchant of scoring.
    His playing career ended prematurely as a result of a double fracture in his ankle.
    He was considered a real hard-ass on his players.
    He originally refused Jacques Plante's idea of wearing a mask until Plante became seriously injured in a game.
    He had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup eleven times as a player and coach combined.
    He was a linemate of Maurice Richard.
    He was appointed the Canadiens head coach after management felt he was best suited to control the quick-tempered Richard.
    He remained in Montreal following his retirement from the Canadiens settling his family roots in the city.
    He was bilingual, as he grew up with a francophone mother and an anglophone father.
