    Born near Mantua, Italy
Served in the court of the Duke of Urbino
    Count of Novellata
Wrote ‘Tirsi (1506)’ and ‘The Book of the Courtier (1528)’
He was a rich, overeducated fancy-pants.
He had to quit the army because of a broken ankle.
He leeched on to aristocrats for money and social status.
He pissed off a lot of people by trying to please everyone (born politician).

His beloved wife died four years into their marriage.
    He died of bubonic plague.
He said: ‘Everything that men can understand, women can understand also.’
His ‘Book of the Courtier’ was a guide for male dress and etiquette (sort of the ‘GQ’ of its time).
He said that men should be well-read, athletic, cultivated and charming.
