Why he might be annoying:

In the book Ecoscience (written with Paul and Anne Ehrlich), he writes in favor of authoritarian measures to control the world's population.
The authoritarian measures include forced abortions, mass sterilization through drinking water and taking children from teenage/single mothers.
He favors an international police force to enforce these measures.
When he faced confirmation hearings, the Senate let him weasel out of explaining these statements.
He believes that trees should have legal rights.
He once wrote that, 'A baby will ultimately develop into a human being if properly fed and socialized.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is really, really smart.
He led a graduate program in energy and resources at Berkeley for 23 years.
He has authored over 200 articles and written or edited almost twenty books.
He claims to have changed or modified many of his more controversial views.
