His first show as choreographer was a flop and closed after twelve days.
He abused cocaine.
Although he was gay he married actress Donna McKechnie for three months.
He has a huge following of musical theater geeks.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is considered a legendary choreographer.
Richard Attenborough decided not to use his choreography in the film version of "A Chorus Line," and it tanked.
He passed away from AIDS.
He and Donna McKechnie remained friends after they divorced.
