Drafted ninth overall by the New York Islanders in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft and 76th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft
Forward for the New Jersey Devils (2002-04, 2006-09), Phoenix Coyotes (2004-05), Columbus Blue Jackets (2005-06), Pittsburgh Penguins (2009-11), New York Rangers (2011-13) and the Minnesota Wild (2013-14)

He re-entered the NHL Draft after he failed to reach an entry-level agreement with the Islanders.
He bounced around between the NHL and the minor leagues.

He earned a Stanley Cup ring with the Devils (2003)
He is the first player in NHL history to have his first playoff goal be the Stanley Cup clinching goal.

He maintained a playing career, despite the fact he was diagnosed with Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome.
