Why he might be annoying
A critic called him 'an extreme prude making X-rated movies.'
While in San Francisco, he asked concert promoter Bill Graham about one band, 'Why don’t they take heroin? That’s what all the really good musicians take?'
He said, 'All the sensible values of a solid education and a moral foundation have been flushed down a liberal toilet in order to sell sex, drugs and rock and roll.'
He claimed he never worked with anyone who used drugs, although he was willing to make an exception for Holly Woodlawn. And Jackie Curtis. And....
A critic called his post-Warhol films 'insignificant at best and downright awful at worst.'
Why he might not be annoying
It's gotta be frustrating to have your best work associated by the public with another person whose main contribution was slapping his name over the title.
Warhol said, 'Paul was very resourceful -- eventually to the point where he came to seem magical to us.'
He said, 'A director I don't think really ever can take credit for a performer's performance. I think you can only take credit for allowing the performance to happen, that's all.'
George Cukor said of his films, 'They're so bold and undiluted and really new.' (1972)
