    Their rotating lineup featured more than a dozen vocalists throughout the years.
    After Melvin refused to change their name to ‘Teddy Pendergrass & the Blue Notes,' Pendergrass left the band.
    They were originally known as ‘The Charlemagnes.'
    They sued Neil Young after he named his backup band ‘The Blue Notes,' forcing Young to change his band's name.
    They were one of the premiere soul groups of the 1970's, personifying the ‘Philadelphia sound.'
    They were Grammy Award nominated for their song ‘If You Don't Know Me By Now.'
    Two of their songs became popular number one hits for other artists (Thelma Houston and Simply Red).
    At the time of his death, Harold Melvin had been the group's leader for more than forty years.
