The Resume

    (February 13, 1923-December 7, 2020)
'First Supersonic Flight (Bell X-1 in 1947),' 'Edwards Air Force Base' and 'World War II Ace'
    Co-Author of 'Yeager' (autobiography)

Why he might be annoying:

He risked his life and was predicted to die if he or any other pilot actually broke the barrier.
Air Force engineers and aeronautical experts thought breaking the sound barrier could not be done, therefore, having little faith in him and other test pilots.
He applied for the risky mission, not expecting to get it.
He told his General that he was more afraid of him than the sound barrier.
He didn't wear a parachute and even if he jumped, he would've been destroyed by the plane's wing.
Prior to breaking the sound barrier, he fell off a horse and broke his ribs.
He knew he would be disqualified, so his wife took him to a little town doctor rather than a base Doc.
He told no one but his Chief, who helped him make a special hook to close the plane's latch and they hid it, as well as his pain.
As he was about to break the barrier, he announced he was experiencing great turbulence and his glass gauges were shattering.
Suddenly a sonic BOOM! was heard, which caused confusion, then alarm.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is one of the most famous test pilots in history and would fly any plane he could get his hands on.
He was the first person to break the sound barrier.
It was the first time any fliers had experienced shock waves.
The aircraft he piloted was flown by a B-52 bomber to an altitude of approx. 43,000 ft./speed of 500 m.p.h. and released.
Once released, his rocket powered plane's rocket's ignited, lurching forward at amazing speeds.
He reached a record maximum speed of Mach 1.45.
Yeager National Airport in Charleston, West Virginia is named after him.
Marshall University's (Huntington, WV) enhanced scholarship and academic program named in his honor is Society of Yeager Scholars.
His plane was developed in Buffalo, New York and is now in the Smithsonian Institute.
He is a loving family man.
He has been described as 'one tough cookie, determined, warm and few men like him.'
Even broken ribs won't stop him!
After the enormous sonic BOOM!, when he was thought to be perished...he announced on the mic, 'It’s as smooth as glass up here.'
His vapor trail with a little dot was then spotted where no man had ventured before.
