    Born in Oxnard, California
Later raised in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
    Jewish-American character actor

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he tended to be cast as unsympathetic and/or pathetic types.
His deadpan expression often screamed, 'something smells bad.'
He was rarely a leading man.
During the Second World War, he was stationed in Italy as an Infantryman.
‘Television Guest Stars: An Illustrated Chronicle for Performers of the Sixties and Seventies’ pegged him as the record holder for most TV series with a guest appearance (minimum 150).
He was no slouch at playing competent higher-ranking types, though.
His one marriage bore him but one child.
