Vocalists
    Born in United States
    (1988-96)
    1988 line-up:
    Aqil 'A-Plus' Davidson
    Markell Riley
    Brandon Mitchell
    Keith 'K.C.' Hanns
Recorded 'New Jack Swing' and 'Rump Shaker'
They are a two hit wonder.
Hanns left the group immediately after the release of their debut album.
They changed their name from Wrecks-n-Effect to Wreckx-n-Effect in 1990 after Mitchell was killed, the 'x' symbolizing his death (nice tribute).
'Rap's New Generation,' their third album, was received with a collective ho-hum, and the group (then a duo) disbanded.
They jumped record labels, from Atlantic, to Motown, to MCA, to obscurity.
They helped kick off the new jack swing musical movement of the late '80s.
'New Jack Swing' hit #1 on the Rap Singles chart in 1990.
Shortly after the song made it big, Mitchell was shot to death at just 20 years old.
'Rump Shaker' was a huge cross-over hit, reaching #2 for weeks on Billboard's Singles chart, kept from the #1 spot by Whitney Houston's monster hit 'I Will Always Love You.'
The song went multi-platinum, which helped their 1992 LP 'Hard or Smooth' reach #9 on Billboard's Albums chart (and #6 on the Hip-Hop Albums chart).
'New Jack Swing' is featured on the popular, huge-selling 2004 video game 'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.'
