    After the 50s, he did most of his work in Italian quickies like 'Satan's Cheerleaders.'
    He was married three times, divorced twice.
    When he was 45, he dated 16-year-old Tuesday Weld.
    Before entering acting, he performed as a swimmer in a water carnival.
    During the McCarthy era, he successfully sued two TV producers for breach of contract and slander when they dropped him from a proposed Ellery Queen series and hinted he was a Communist sympathizer.
    The scene in 'Red River' where he and Montgomery Clift compare their guns was reportedly a nod to the size of the pistol he packed in his pants.
