Football Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He shares his name with the linebacker.
He failed to meet the Bills expectations of being Jim Kelly’s successor.
His inconsistency set off a long list of stopgaps in the Bills starting quarterback position between Kelly and Josh Allen.
He spent the remainder of his NFL career as a backup.
Despite being on the Chiefs roster for nine seasons, he was unable to surpass the likes of both Elvis Grbac and Trent Green for the starting job.
He holds the dubious distinction of having the longest gap between starts in NFL history (10 years and 2 days; 1997-2007).

Why he might not be annoying:

He excelled in both football, basketball and baseball during his high school career.
He left the University of Michigan among the top three leaders in pass attempts, completions, and yards.
He was unfairly made as the scapegoat for the Bills failure to reach the playoffs, as he endured lofty expectations by the team’s front office.
He made his last hurrah as a starter, when he guided a Redskins team morally defeated after Sean Taylor’s death to a 4-0 record and an improbable playoff berth (2007).
He narrowly avoided NFL infamy when he avoided a sack by the linebacker of the same name in a 1997 game (which ironically wound up being Bills quarterback Josh Allen in 2021).
