Why he might be annoying:

    He cut classes to hustle pool.
    He was divorced twice.
    He paid payola to disc jockeys.
    Dusty Springfield reportedly threw an ahstray at him during the 'Dusty in Memphis' recording sessions.
    He noted that the two favorite albums he produced, Dr. John's 'Gumbo' and 'Doug Sahm and Friends' were two of Atlantic's worst sellers.

Why he might not be annoying:

    While working at Billboard magazine, he coined the phrase 'Rhythm and Blues' to replace 'Race Records' for the black music charts.
    He said of his early years at Atlantic, 'We didn't know shit about making records, but we were having fun.'
    He daughter Anita died from AIDS (1989).
    When Bob Dylan won his first Grammy, he first thanked God, then Wexler.
    Ray Charles said, 'He had an extraordinary insight into talent.'
