The Resume

Why they might be annoying:

They are a two hit wonder.
Andy and John Taylor (no relation) formed the band in 1984 because they wanted a break from the touring grind of Duran Duran.
John was engaged to Bebe Buell at the time and the idea was for her to provide the lead vocals, but they broke up before any recording took place.
The new idea was to have 8 different artists record the 8 different tracks for 'The Power Station' album, including Mick Jagger, Billy Idol and Richard Butler from the Psychedelic Furs. This plan also fell through.
Just before the group started a world tour, Palmer, who had previously committed to the group, opted out.
They scrambled to find a replacement. Paul Young ('Every time You Go Away') turned them down, so they settled on former Silverhead singer Michael Des Barres.
After they performed in Live Aid, they became disenchanted, finished the tour, and disbanded.
They reformed in 1996 to record 'Living In Fear,' but John quit before recording was completed.
When they toured to promote 'Living In Fear,' it was met with a collective yawn.
They halted the tour and disbanded for good.

Why they might not be annoying:

The group was Andy and John's vehicle to move away from the synth-pop of Duran Duran and let themselves 'rock out' more.
When Palmer recorded the first track for 'The Power Station' album it turned out so well the group decided it should forgo the 'multiple lead singers' concept and let him sing on all the tracks.
Both 'Some Like It Hot' and 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' were smash hits, selling over one million units each.
'Some Like It Hot' hit #6 on the U.S. singles charts and #14 in the U.K..
Its music video featured transsexual model/actress Tula Cossey.
'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' reached #9 in the U.S. and #22 in the U.K..
When John quit during the 1996 recording of 'Living In Fear,' Tony Thompson was able to get his former Chic bandmate Bernard Edwards to take his place.
Palmer died of a heart attack at age 54 (September 26, 2003).
Thompson died of kidney cancer at age 48 (November 12, 2003).
