Why Falun Gong might be annoying:

    It is accused by the Chinese government of spreading superstition and creating social disorder.
    Some believe it is trying to infiltrate the Communist Party.
    Though usually described as a religion, it began as an alternative science.
    Many followers believe it can give them supernatural powers such as the ability to fly and read minds.
    It teaches that aliens are trying to take over the bodies and souls of humans.
    Some followers refuse to take Western medicine.
    Critics accuse it of using cult-like methods to recruit and manipulate members.
    It denounces homosexuality as immoral.
    It teaches that interracial children are the products of degenerate societies.
    It supposedly has no leader, yet founder Li Hongzhi is much revered.

Why Falun Gong might not be annoying:

    Persecution began when followers demonstrated peacefully outside Communist Party headquarters in Beijing (1999).
    Members have been fired, expelled from university, tortured and sentenced to forced labor.
    Amnesty International and the United Nations denounced China’s official persecution.
    It became a powerful movement despite having no official institutions or leadership.
    It may be the first religion to have spread largely through the internet.
    It provides alternative treatments for those who can’t afford Western medicine.
    Followers insist they have no political agenda.
    It has developed a large international following.
    It teaches followers to improve themselves physically and mentally and to treat others with compassion.
