The Resume

    (February 24, 1970- )
    Born in Santa Rosa, California
Captain in the United States Navy
Commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt
Relieved of duty, on April 2, 2020, over a letter asking for help with a coronavirus outbreak on his ship

Why he might be annoying:

He was inspired to go into the Navy after seeing Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
He was accused of jeopardizing national security and of placing his entire ship at risk after bypassing the chain of command.
He commanded one of only ten Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the Navy (meaning that by going public with his complaints, he was potentially inviting an attack from hostile foreign powers).
He gave his ship liberty to leave the ship during a stop in Vietnam during a global pandemic, which resulted in the number of COVID-19 infections onboard.
He reportedly blindsided Navy brass after the contents of the memo were inexplicably leaked to the press.
The letter gave the public and media the impression that the crew was stranded at sea with nowhere to dock, when quarantine arrangements were already being made after docking in Guam.
The case resulted in the acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly stepping down after audio was leaked of him saying to the crew: 'If he didn’t think that this information wasn’t going to get out into the public, in this day and information age that we live in, then he was either A, too naive or too stupid to be a commanding officer of a ship like this. The alternative is that he did this on purpose.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1992.
He flew the F/A-18 Hornet during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The ship's sailors could be heard cheering for him as he disembarked after his firing.
Navy leadership conceded that he was correct in his concern, just wrong in his approach and communications (as of April 2020, there is talk of reinstating him).
