    He acted more like a cheerleader than a commentator in covering British boxer Frank Bruno's title fight with Mike Tyson.
    He was married to Phyllis Barbara Matthews for 60 years until his death.
    He served as a telegrapher on destroyers with the Royal Navy during World War II.
    He was named International Sportscaster of the Year by the American Sportscasters' Association (1989).
    The Daily Telegraph said that he 'had the priceless ability to make even the dullest of sports appear interesting.'
