Hockey Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He did not return to the NHL until three years after he made his debut.
He spent the majority of his career on a dreadful Capitals team.
He never participated in a Stanley Cup playoff game during his career.
Some hockey pundits felt his number 7 being retired by the Capitals franchise was a 'joke' and a 'slap in the face' as he did not produce solid numbers or guide the team to a Stanley Cup playoff appearance.
Despite having his number retired alongside the likes of Rod Langway, Mike Gartner and Dale Hunter, he is never considered in the discussion of greatest players in the history of the Capitals franchise.

Why he might not be annoying:

He scored the Capitals' first ever goal at the Capital Center (1974).
He enjoyed playing in Washington, at a time where no one wanted to.
He helped establish youth hockey programs at the grassroots level in the Capital region, as a way to get kids interested in the sport.
He was an original Capital who worked for the franchise in various capacities following his retirement from active play.
His hard nosed defensive style of play and leadership made him a fan favorite during the team's lean years.
