    The city is a prime example of urban sprawl. It lost more than half of its population during the last half of the 20th century.
    It has a history of crime and segregation.
    It once had a baseball team and a football team both named the St. Louis Cardinals, creating confusion.
    It lost the NFL St. Louis Cardinals to Arizona and the NBA St. Louis Hawks to Atlanta and took the Rams from Los Angeles.
    A tornado killed 85 people there (1927).
    Their American League team, the St. Louis Browns abandoned them for Baltimore (November 17, 1953).
    Their NHL's St Louis Eagles folded (October 15, 1935)
    In 1944 the St. Louis Browns won their only pennant, but lost to rivals St. Louis Cardinals in the world series.
    They had a riot at Guns N' Roses concert (July 2, 1991). Ten days later, Axl Rose was arrested on charges of rioting.

    They hosted the first women only bowling tournament (March 17, 1917).
    Charles Lindbergh made the first solo cross Atlantic plane flight aboard The Spirit of St Louis (July 1927).
    The first U.S. indoor glider flight was made in the St Louis Terminal Building (March 2, 1930)
