Biblical Character

The Resume

Died between 62 and 69 AD
Catholic Feast Day is May 3
Named in the Bible as the first bishop of Jerusalem

Why he might be annoying:

He might be Jesus' brother. Or, half-brother. Or, step-brother. Or, cousin. Or, friend.
Scripture suggests he was a teetotaling vegetarian who didn't bathe.
He's not to be confused with either James, son of Alphaeus or James the Less.
The lone epistle in the Bible credited to him might've been written by somebody else.
There's a possibility that he and St. Paul weren't on the same page when it came to leading the church.
He might've been one of the siblings referenced in Mark 3:31 who tried to get Jesus to stop teaching.

Why he might not be annoying:

He's referred to in the Bible as 'the Lord's brother.'
He was the first leader of the Christian church in Jerusalem following the ascension of Jesus Christ.
In addition to being 'just,' he's also considered 'righteous.'
'Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry' is found in his epistle.
He advocated for widows and orphans, opposed favoritism and oppression by the rich, encouraged good deeds and preached patience and perseverance.
    He was stoned to death.
