Why he might be annoying:

His inspiration for ‘Make Way for Ducklings' was watching ducks actually waddling through traffic.
He said: ‘It is just sort of an accident that I write books. I really think up stories in pictures and just fill in between the pictures with a sentence or a paragraph or a few pages of words.'
He initially considered his career in children's literature a disappointment.

Why he might not be annoying:

His single-color illustrations were known for their depth and perspective.
He received three Caldecott honors within a nine-year period.
He was the first illustrator to achieve two Caldecott medals, for ‘Make Way for Duckling' (1942) and ‘A Time of Wonder' (1958).
One of the authors for whom he did picture work was his mother-in-law!
After settling in New York City, his family normally spent the summer on the Maine Coast — where some of his books were set.
