Won 37 Emmy Awards, 6 George Foster Peabody Awards, 10 duPont-Columbia Awards (including in 1985 the first 'Gold Baton' in the history of the duPont-Columbia Awards), first recipient of the Sol Taishoff Award, Named 'Broadcaster of the Year' by the International Television and Radio Society (1987) and Inductee of the Broadcasting Hall of Fame

Why he might be annoying:

He and David Letterman, are Alfred E. Neuman look-a-likes.
He also looks like Howdy Doody.
On getting Nightline host seat he said: 'I looked forward to it, enormously. Even when you have a beat like the State Department, you never get a chance to strut yourself. Whether this program was 15 minutes or a half-hour, it was mine.'
He said of the name 'Nightline,' 'What a crappy name.'
He co-wrote 'NIGHTLINE: History in the Making and the Making of Television' with Kyle Gibson, although Gibson did most of the work, his name appears first (1996).

Why he might not be annoying:

His parents were Jews who lived in Nazi Germany in the 1930's.
They emigrated to England to escape the Nazis.
He speaks fluent German, Russian and French.
He said: 'This (Republican National) convention is more of an infomercial than a news event. Nothing surprising has happened, nothing surprising is anticipated.' (August 1996)
He is a left handed.
His 40-year-old son was found dead after a day of binge drinking (May 31, 2010).
