    He failed as a farmer and returned to the Army.
    He killed Fauk and Fox Indians for their land in the Black Hawk War.
    He fought a dual with General Felix Huston for command of the Texas Army and lost.
    He used slave labor on his plantation.
    His rank as General in the Confederate forces was likely due to his friendship with Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
    He graduated 8th from the U.S Military Academy.
    His wife died young.
    He was considered by Confederate President Jefferson Davis to be the finest general in the Confederacy.
    During his dual with General Felix Huston he refused to fire, resulting in his being shot in the thigh.
    When at the Battle of Shiloh, he was fatally shot in an artery at the back of his knee, he sent his physician away to see to other wounded men thinking it a trivial wound.
