The Resume

    (April 26, 1941- )
    Born in Macon, Georgia
    Singer/Songwriter/Producer
Wrote, recorded and produced her only hit, 'Party Lights' (1962)
Moved to Philadelphia and attended Combs College as a music major
    One-Hit Wonder

Why she might be annoying:

She was allowed to write and record her song, 'Party Lights' as the flipside to the intended hit, 'Disappointed,' because they had no other song prepared.
Her record label, Chancellor Records, abandoned the single until radio stations began playing 'Party Lights' instead.
Instead of following 'Party Lights' quickly to take advantage of its success, Chancellor waited five months to release a follow-up. Her next single, 'Walking Through a Cemetery,' was an ill-advised attempt to follow Bobby 'Boris' Pickett’s 'Monster Mash.' It failed to chart.
Chancellor Records failed to support her follow-up singles, and soon shut down.

Why she might not be annoying:

She wrote her own songs, which was unheard of for a female singer at the time. However, her record label, Chancellor Records, would not release them as singles.
She was a college-educated artist, a rarity in pop music at the time.
She not only wrote 'Party Lights,' but she produced it as well, though she got no credit on the label. She became the first woman to write and produce a Top Five hit single.
Chancellor Records refused to allow her to produce another song out of embarrassment, as it was embarrassing that their professional producers failed while a novice succeeded.
Because of Chancellor Records’ closing, her sole hit was unavailable for radio stations and juke boxes for many years, denying her of her royalties.
She gave up recording music to raise a family, though she still performed gospel music.
