Five time governor of Virginia (one year terms, 1776-79, 84-86).
Famed for saying: 'Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death' (March 23, 1775)

Why he might be annoying:

He was hypocritical, considering he owned 39 slaves at his death.
He owned a tobacco plantation.
He fathered 17 children.
He turned down George Washington's offer to serve as either Secretary of State or Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

He strongly desired the American Revolution.
He debated in the House of Burgesses (Virginia's Convention) defiance of the Stamp Act and yelled, 'If this be treason, make the most of it' (1775).
He was a strong proponent of the bill of rights, protecting individual liberties.
