    (November 8, 1970- )
    Born in Marktoberdorf, Germany
    Cross-country skier
Competed for Germany (1992-98) and Spain (1998-2002)
Finished first in the 50-km classical, 30-km freestyle and 10+10 km combined pursuit at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics (2002)
He accused members of the German ski federation of poisoning him (1993).
Afterwords, he carried a flask of holy water with him at all times.
He claimed extraterrestrials 'contacted me and are now guiding my actions.'
He was stripped of his Olympic medals after testing positive for a drug that boosts red blood cell counts.
He won the gold in 50 km cross-county skiing at the 2001 World Championships.
He said about taking advice from aliens, 'You may think it's funny, but it's paid off.'
King Juan Carlos called him, somewhat prematurely, 'an example for all our athletes to follow.'
