TV Series
It had been only two years since the last All-Star edition.
The title sounds like a comic book movie.
When Heroes vs. Villains was first announced, the logo featured silhouettes of the actual players, and since die-hard could tell who was who right off the bat, it made it harder for producers to keep the players’ identities a secret.
Could there truly be a tribe of Heroes without Yau-Man (he turned down the show), or a tribe of Villains without Jonny Fairplay? (the show turned down him!)
They missed out on Ethan Zohn being one of the Heroes as well, since he was busy battling Hodgkin’s disease at the time.
Corinne from Survivor: Gabon didn’t do the show only because she couldn’t get off of work!
The U.S. government denied Richard Hatch permission to leave the country, so producers had to find someone else for the Villain tribe.
For the second straight cycle, they had to put up with Russell’s antics.
For some reason, Danielle was branded a Villain (WTF!).
Candice was a Hero, despite committing mutiny during the Cook Islands cycle.
J.T. assumed that the Villains had an all-girls alliance, so he gave away his Hidden Immunity Idol to Russell, the only male Villain remaining.
The Idol ended up being given to Parvati, whose use of it caused J.T. to be voted out.
Russell was arrested for assault while this cycle aired.
In fact, during this cycle’s run, a former Survivor producer, Bruce Beresford-Redman, also had a run-in with the law, as a suspect in the murder of his wife.
When Jennifer Lyon, the first Survivor player ever to cease surviving, passed away from cancer just weeks before this cycle premiered, producers waited until the reunion show to finally pay tribute.
Four of the Favorites from Fans vs. Favorites came back for a third time out, yet none of the Fans participated.
It featured an All-Star lineup to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Survivor, and 20th Survivor cycle overall.
For this cycle only, the tag line was changed from ‘Outwit, Outplay, Outlast’ to ‘Return, Revenge, Redemption.’
Though many injuries occurred during the game, no one was medically evacuated this time.
Rupert lasted 36 days, despite breaking two toes in the first episode.
The Palau and Guatemala cycles were finally represented in All-Star play, and by the same person, too (Stephenie).
Tom from the Palau cycle also participated, despite previously turning down Fans vs. Favorites.
Producers only made Candice a Hero because they felt her mutiny in the Cook Islandswas actually a desire to return to her old tribe.
Danielle was only made a Villain because the producers didn’t like the way she treated Terry in the closing days of Exile Island.
Sugar lost her bra during one challenge, and ended up crossing the finish line topless.
Amanda got into a hilarious catfight with Danielle over custody of a Hidden Immunity Idol clue.
Sandra became the first two-time Sole Survivor, and the first to remain undefeated through two Survivor cycles.
It gave several former castaways a second, and in some cases a third, shot at a million dollars.
Only time will tell how well this cycle ranks in Survivor history; having said that, many fans, as well as <1163>Jeff Probst, feel that the Heroes vs. Villains cycle makes an excellent case for being the greatest ever.
