    Point guard for the Buffalo Braves (1973-77), Los Angeles Lakers (1977-78) and the Boston Celtics (1978)

    College Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2019)
    He suffered a serious knee injury which ended his career after five years.
    He failed to replicate the same degree of success he had in his rookie season.
    He went by the nickname 'Ernie D.'
    His tenure with the Lakers lasted only 25 games.
    He did not formally announce his retirement from the NBA until 1981, despite the fact his final game was played four years earlier.
