Garry Marshall gave his sister Penny the role of Myrna.
Actress Pamela Ferdin was replaced by Doney Oatman as Edna, with no apparent reason.
During the first season, the series used a laugh track.
An unsuccessful remake 'The Odd Couple II' featured an all black cast (1982) starring Ron Glass as Felix and Demond Wilson as Oscar.
It was not a stretch for Tony Randall and Jack Klugman to portray their characters, as they were very much like that in real life.
The opening narration was written by executive producer, Garry Marshall, which begins with 'On November 13th...' November 13th is Garry's birthday.
Murray the cop was given the last name Greshler, the same as Tony Randall and Jack Klugman's agent Abbey Greshler's last name.
Miriam was given the last name Welby, because she was portrayed by Elinor Donahue, who began her TV career portraying the daughter of Robert Young. Robert Young went on to star as Marcus Welby.
Felix' children, Leonard and Edna, were named for Tony Randall's birth name and his sisters name.
After using a laugh track for the first season, the stars demanded a live audience.
They cross promoted shows like 'Monday Night Football,' 'Lets Make a Deal' and 'Password.'
Series creator Neil Simon appeared in a non speaking cameo.
In the opening credits, Felix sits down exhausted as he is carrying two heavy suitcases. A guy rushes to him to check if he is ok. The good samaritan was legit and unaware they were filming a TV opening, so the director left it in.
Tony and Jack reprised their roles for 'The Odd Couple: Together Again' (1993) and for a series of live performances.
Felix and his wife lived in New Rochelle, the city the 'Dick Van Dyke Show' was set in.
The show spun off a cartoon series called 'The Oddball Couple' of a cat and dog that befriended each other.
Tony Randall and Jack Klugman remained very close after the series ended.
The series concluded with a final episode in which Felix and Gloria, remarry.
It has the very odd Am I Annoying ID of 13579.
    Opening:
'On November 13th, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence.
That request came from his wife.
Deep down he knew she was right.
But he also knew that someday he would return to her.
With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his childhood friend, Oscar Madison.
Sometime earlier, Madison's wife had thrown him out, requesting that he never return.
Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy?'
