He failed to repeat the same degree of success he had following his Gold Glove and Fielding Bible Award winning season.
He struggled to find his footing on a major league roster after being traded from the Cubs.
His tenure with the Blue Jays was best remembered for a bungled slide attempt he made, which he admitted he did to make the game exciting.
Many Cub fans forgot about him and his accomplishments with the team, due to the fact he was before the team's successful era, led by Javy Baez and Kris Bryant.

He was a member of the Oregon State baseball team that won the NCAA national championship in consecutive years (2006-07).

He became a volunteer baseball coach at his alma mater following his retirement from the majors.
He tied a major league record for consecutive games without making an error (141 in 2012).
