Why he might be annoying:

He smoked.
He was temperamental.
He named names to the House Committee on Un-American Activities in the 1950s.
He is the only person to win the Best Director Oscar for the only film that he directed.
He is the only person to share a Best Director Oscar, splitting it with Robert Wise.
He was fired from 'West Side Story' late into filming for not being able to stay on schedule.
He only film experience prior to 'West Side Story' was choreographing the 'Small House of Uncle Thomas' scene for 'The King and I.'
