TV Series
    (August 1, 1971-March 11, 1977)
    Aired on CBS
    Aired as 'The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour' (August 1, 1971-May 29, 1974) and 'The Sonny & Cher Show' (February 1, 1976-March 11, 1977)
Comedy-variety show hosted by (who else?) Sonny Bono and Cher
Sonny and Cher presented themselves as a happily married couple when they were really living in separate wings of their mansion and dating other people.
They frequently trotted out their daughter Chastity to further the 'one happy family' image.
The show went off the air when Cher filed for divorce.
The show was revived after neither Sonny's nor Cher's individual show was a ratings success.
Unfortunately, the jokes were no longer amusing once the viewers suspected that the couple really meant the barbs they shot at each other.
It was originally a summer replacement series, but did so well in the ratings that it was added to the regular schedule.
In the opening sketches, Sonny was willing to give Cher the best lines and serve as the butt of the jokes.
Terri Garr was a cast member.
They had a wide range of guests, from Ronald Reagan to the Jackson 5.
