He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.
As a test pilot his call sign was 'Shaky.'
He was turned down as a candidate for NASA's first astronaut recruitment group.
His Apollo 13 mission failed.
Moon landing hoax believer Bill Kaysing sued him for libel (only to be thrown out of court).
Although credited with the line 'Houston we have a problem,' it was actually 'We've had a problem' and was spoken by Jack Swigert.

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite two trips to the Moon he never walked on it's surface.
He is calm under pressure and a lateral thinker.
He brought his Apollo 13 crew safely home in a crippled spacecraft.
He served his country in the Korean War.
After his time at NASA he served as CEO of several corporations and eventually opened a restaurant.
He was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
