The Resume

    (September 16, 1944-April 27, 2006)
    Ex-wife of 2004 Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry (May 23, 1970-July 25, 1988)
Mother of Alexandra Kerry and Vanessa Kerry
Wrote the books 'You Are Not Alone: Words of Experience and Hope for the Journey Through Depression' (with Larry Rothstein-1993) and 'A Change of Heart: Words of Experience and Hope for the Journey Through Divorce' (1996)
Died of bladder cancer at age 61

Why she might be annoying:

She hated being a political wife. An author of a book about the Kerrys said, 'She didn't enjoy the breakfasts, the lunches, the shaking of hands: the upbeat rigamarole of politics. She loathed the back-stabbing of it. She went on her own journey, one based on spirituality and nature.'
She and Kerry separated for six years before divorcing. In 1997, two years after remarried, he asked for an annulment.
Depression started to overtake her in the 1980's and she had a failed suicide attempt.
Her 'Journey Through' books were about depression and divorce, not very upbeat reading material.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her ancestry included Elias Boudinot IV, president of the Continental Congress and William Bradford, attorney general under George Washington.
Her twin brother and Yale classmate of Kerry introduced the two in 1963 and, in her words, 'He was clearly smitten. He just kind of stood there and looked.'
She sought treatment for and overcame her depression.
Although concerned about her daughter's involvement in politics, she endorsed Kerry's presidential campaign, stating, 'I think he is an immensely talented statesman, and I am 100% behind him.'
Upon hearing of her passing, Kerry issued a statement: 'Julia was the best mother two daughters could ask for. She always put our kids ahead of everything. She was completely committed to them and their future. Julia fought a hugely courageous fight against cancer and she passed away with the same grace with which she lived. Everyone who knew her will miss her beyond words.'
