He said about his early blogging days, 'I pretended like I had all these genius ideas while I was really in my mom's basement.'
He is a vegan who has invested in a start-up producing meat substitutes.

He and the other Twitter founders were named 'Entrepreneurs of the Decade' by Inc Magazine (2009).
He said, 'Just because we found success early and in many ways got lucky doesn't mean we're all a bunch of geniuses.'
He is an advisor and contributor to Donors Choose, a nonprofit helping classrooms in need.
He keeps his company in perspective: 'I think when people twitter 20 or 30 times a day, that's too much.'
