Earned medical degree at Würzburg University (1887)
Noted psychiatrist and neuropathologist
Studied mental capacity deterioration of patient Auguste Deter at the Frankfurt Asylum (1901-06)
Studies of memory functions led to the term bearing his name - Alzheimer's disease
Died of heart failure in Wroclaw, Poland at age 51

Why he might be annoying:

He did his doctoral thesis on earwax glands.
He was an obsessive cigar smoker to the point he looked at microscope slides with a stogie in his mouth.
When a banker patient of his died, he married the rich widow.
He accepted a position as professor of psychiatry at the University of Breslau in 1912, but fell ill on the trip there and never taught a class.
Though many papers of his were published, all his years of research never yielded one book.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an enthusiastic, hands-on teacher.
He was an eternal optimist who used setbacks to fuel his desire to learn more.
His colleagues praised his research techniques and tireless work ethic.
His studies of memory loss showed that not all patients, young or old, should be labeled as presenile cases.
Though sick with rheumatic fever and kidney failure the last three years of his life, he was researching up to the end.
His detailed documentation of the disease that bears his name is so detailed that little has changed with his techniques over 100 years later.
