The Resume

    (July 7, 1906-January 10, 1985)
    Born in Vienna, Austria
    Zither player
Composed and recorded the score for 'The Third Man' (1949)

Why he might be annoying:

He brought his zither with him to the front when he served in the German Wehrmacht in WWII.
He never learned to read or write music.
He complained that director Carol Reed treated him 'like a slave' by not letting him return to Vienna until he was finished with the 'Third Man' score.
    He was a one-hit wonder.

Why he might not be annoying:

Reed was trying to come up with a score that would evoke the atmosphere of Vienna without using Strauss waltzes when he overheard Karas playing in a beer garden and asked him to write the score.
His recording of 'The Third Man Theme' topped the Billboard best-sellers chart for 11 weeks.
He earned enough from sales of the single to open his own wine bar.
He gave command performances for the British royal family, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, Emperor Hirohito and Pope Pius XII.
