    Pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1999-2000)
    Released the autobiography, 'The Oldest Rookie'
    Subject of the film 'The Rookie' (2002)
    He did not join the major leagues until he was 35 years old.
    His major league career lasted less than a year.
    His name sounds similar to The Doors' frontman, Jim Morrison.
    He injured his arm several times when he was in the minor leagues and required many surgeries.
    He was a navy brat.
    He was able to throw a 98 mph fastball despite his age and the fact that he had several surgeries on his arm.
    He was a high school baseball coach and a physics teacher.
    He made a bet with his high school's failing baseball team that if they played better, he would try out for the major leagues (they eventually became district champions).
    His autobiography 'The Oldest Rookie' was made into a movie starring Dennis Quaid.
    After retiring from baseball in 2000, he became a motivational speaker and returned to coaching high school baseball.
