Why Rankin Inlet, Nunavut might be annoying:

    Like the majority of the communities in the territory of Nunavut, it is extremely isolated from the rest of the country.
    Its economy dried up, following the closure of the Rankin Inlet Mine in the 1960's.
    It attempted to get involved in the food and agriculture industry, but the results of that venture were disastrous.
    Kivalliq Hall was recognized as a residential school, prior to its closure in 1997.
    It has notoriously harsh winters and extremely cold winds.
    Despite it being the second largest community in the territory, it is considered a hamlet.

Why Rankin Inlet, Nunavut might not be annoying:

    The Rankin Inlet Mine, located near the community was the first one in Canada to predominantly employ Inuit people.
    It is the hub community of the Kivalliq Region.
    Its economy was revitalized, following the opening of the Meliadine Gold Mine in 2019.
    It was one of two communities to be considered for territorial capital status, following the creation of Nunavut.
    It is Jordin Tootoo's hometown.
